Pump For Large Oval Pool
What is the minimum pump horse power needed for an 18' by 33' above ground pool?
Hi.
A 1 HP would clean the pool just fine.

I have never owned a pool before and I had a friend of mine come over and help setup the pump and hoses. My filter gauge is as high as it can go and moves very little. I have back washed the filter and the gauge goes down to 55 but as soon as I turn it back on filter it goes up past 60.
Is it possible that I have a bad gauge or do I need to change the sand in the filter? Also, one of the hoses connected from the bottom drain to the filter is sucked so it is no longer round. Is that a problem and if so how do I fix that?
Thanks for your help.
Hi.
If you have a good positive flow of water coming back into your pool your gauge is probably bad. If the water just trickles, you have other problems. A hose not round is OK unless it is collapsed, then it needs changed.

I have an Intex 15' X 48" pool that I just put up. I currently have the out of the box filter pump (1000Gph) with the salt water sanitizing system hooked up to it.
Since the beginning I was always going to upgrade to a sand filter and pump but want to know what size would be best for this size pool without going overboard and spending to much cash?
Hi.
I would go with a 3/4 HP pump matched to an adequate sand filter.
We just put a new o ring in our Swimpro filter, but it still leaks between the top of the cartridge container & the ring you turn to open it.
Ideas?
Hi.
Without seeing the system my only suggestion would be to put plenty of Aqualube on the o-ring.

Have a Doughboy filter system. The suction is very poor when vacuuming pool. Not sure how to improve?
Hi.
It could be a lot of things. What I would try first is to backflush the filter before vacuuming and then again when you are done. If you loose suction while vacuuming, stop and backflush again.

I have a 3988 gallon Intex above ground pool, I have a lot of rust settling on the bottom, tried to vacuum it and it just goes right back into the pool via the return hose. Very frustrated, I haven't even got to use my pool yet.
What is the best way to vacuum the pool, the water is a yellowish/brown color.
Sincerely very upset.......
PLEASE HELP ME, I'm new to this whole pool thing.
Hi.
It sounds to me like algae on the pool bottom. A mustard algae is brown and it tends to blow right through a filter back into the pool. You need an algaecide to kill the algae and you need to vacuum the pool straight out into the yard, and not through the filter back into the pool.
My filter has water trickling out of the back flush port. Everything is connected correct. Do I need to replace something or need to buy a new filter?
Hi.
The usual cause of this is the spider gasket in the valve assembly. It is fairly easy to change. It is also possible to hook a back flush hose up to the back flush port and leave it rolled up next to the filter. This will stop minor leaks.
