Storing Pool Steps
I have a set of Royal Entrance pool steps. When I take them out of the pool for the winter, do they need to be stored inside or can they be put in a storage shed outside? Thanks.
Hi Amy
I think either way would be just fine.

We live in Western Kansas and have an Above Ground Soft side Metal Frame Pool and was wondering what the best plan would be for leaving it up during the winter months. We do have cold weather and snow!! Any information will be appreciated.
Thanks

I live in PA and have the same question. Just wondering though if covering would damage the pool with wind ice and snow? Or if leaving the cover off would damage sun exposed liner. My daughter has left hers up the last 4 years with no problems, but doesn't live in as windy area.

I see a lot of winterizing kits offering Chlorine or Chlorine Free type chemicals. I live in NJ and am getting ready to close my pool for the first time. Which closing kit should I get? Is there a benefit to using chlorine free vs chlorine kits?
Thanks, Mike

I live in Maryland. When is the best time to close my pool for the winter? Is there an average daily temperature I should wait for? Thanks.

I have the same question. We just put up an Ultra Frame pool this year and I am worried about it getting damaged this winter if we leave it up.
Should I drain my whole above-ground Doughboy Pool for the winter? If not, what do I do?
Hi
No, never drain a vinyl liner pool unless you absolutely have to and are prepared to change the liner if it does not fill up. They shrink and cannot be re-filled, most of the time.

How do you close an above ground pool with a bottom drain?
Hi
I have waited a while to answer this hoping some northern pool owners would help out. Here in Arizona we do not get those freezing conditions.
When you pool water freezes during the winter, it is only the top foot or so. You will always have water below the freeze line. I cannot see the reason to do anything with the drain line.
If it should possibly freeze, the water will expand up into the lower, unfrozen, water of the lower pool.
The filter end of the pipe should have a valve and quick release coupler. This would allow you to shut off the line and still disconnect your equipment for winter storage.

There has GOT to be a better way! Every year we add all the chemicals suggested, put an inner tube into the middle of the pool to keep our cover from sinking to the bottom (which never stays put even though we tie it to all sides), put a tarp cover on the pool complete with the cable tie, and "saran" wrap the pool top rail to keep the cover from blowing off in the winter winds. (We live on top of a hill and catch a lot of wind.) Every spring we have bent uprights and top rails from wind damage and we lose our saran wrap which in turn damages our tarp covering. All of these items were suggested by our local pool supply store. Every year we are spending hundreds of dollars on replacing items that should last more than one year. Can you please tell me the most effective way to winterize your pool?
